The Diocese of Charlotte is located within the Ecclesiastical Province of Atlanta, which covers Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Our 92 parishes and missions offer the Roman Rite (also called Latin rite) liturgy in English, Spanish and several other languages – reflecting the wide variety of people who have made western North Carolina their home. Among our Treasured Sites are two of North Carolina’s three minor basilicas: St. Lawrence Basilica in Asheville and Mary, Help of Christians Basilica in Belmont. Our diocese is also home to reportedly the largest Catholic parish in the United States: St. Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte, with more than 35,000 parishioners.
