Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
— St. Teresa of Ávila
Reading the words of this beautiful prayer by St. Teresa of Ávila reminds us that as Christians, we are called to become Christ’s hands and feet on earth by sharing God’s love with those around us.
This is the Diocese of Charlotte’s 50th anniversary year, and in celebration of this milestone, Bishop Peter Jugis has invited everyone across the diocese to participate in the “50 Acts of Charities” initiative. This is an opportunity to act as the hands and feet of Christ by serving our brothers and sisters in need by completing one or more Acts of Charity by the end of 2022.
During a recent Act of Charity event, St. Matthew Catholic School partnered with Servants with a Heart. This Charlotte-based non-profit organizes meal-packing events to feed hungry families in Charlotte and around the world.
All the staff and students at St. Matthew came together and served as the hands and feet of Christ as they packed meals side by side to help feed those facing hunger in Haiti.
All total, 52,000 meals were packed at the event – providing tremendous relief and nourishment to our Haitian brothers and sisters in need.
