High schooler witnesses to life, organizes successful diaper drive

HUNTERSVILLE — A teenager inspired to start a pro-life group at her school recently organized a diaper drive that brought in over 10,000 diapers for families in need.

It all started when St. Mark parishioner Colette Morell attended MiraVia’s annual banquet last year. Colette was so inspired by the event and MiraVía’s vision that she started a pro-life club at her high school. She collected signatures from interested students and after meeting the school’s requirements, the new student club was approved. She invited Kaitlyn Martinez, a schoolmate and parishioner, to co-lead the club and the two of them along with classmate Bella Hadler held their first club meeting last October.

The club’s mission: Create awareness of the problem of abortion and support women who choose to give birth.

The first service effort they chose to undertake was collecting diapers for babies and moms in need. They reached out to the school community, friends, family and St. Mark parishioners for donations to benefit MiraVia.

The diaper drive was an incredible success, and it speaks to the important work of organizations such as MiraVia in our community to support families in need.

And for Colette, her pro-life witness at her school is just one way young people across our diocese are living their faith, “more precious than gold.”
