Igbo Catholics reach out to support Triad area aid agencies

GREENSBORO — Members of the Igbo Catholic Community in the Diocese of Charlotte recently participated in an Act of Charity in connection with the diocese’s 50th anniversary celebration – supporting two local social service ministries in the Triad.

Members collected diapers and baby wipes for Room At The Inn, and food and grocery items for Greensboro Urban Ministry.

In August, members of the community also visited Room At The Inn to learn more about the work of this pro-life ministry in the Greensboro area, and they visited Greensboro Urban Ministry to find out more about how this food assistance agency helps local families in need.

Their goal, noted Father Marcel Amadi, who serves as spiritual director for the Igbo Catholic Community, was to make a personal connection with these aid agencies who work day in, day out serving the poor and vulnerable in the Triad.

Igbo is the ethnicity and native language of many Nigerian Catholics, many of whom have settled in the Greensboro area over the years. The community sponsors an Igbo-language Mass every other month at St. Mary’s Church in Greensboro.
