Mint Hill parishioners, teens lend a hand to neighbors in need

MINT HILL — St. Luke Catholic Church recently shared a couple of wonderful acts of charity they organized to participate in the “50 Acts of Charity” initiative to celebrate the Diocese of Charlotte’s 50th anniversary.

Ministries at the parish, including Thomasboro Outreach, Family Life Committee, and the Welcome Committee, lent a helping hand to their adopted school, Thomasboro Academy. One hundred percent of Thomasboro Academy’s student population lives below the poverty level, and for the past 20 years, St. Luke parishioners have collected school supplies to help these students get off to a good start. This year, families brought supplies to Masses at the church over a few weekends and filled the donation bins to the brim several times over.

And heading into the school year, the High School Youth Ministry, T4C (Teens for Christ), hosted an evening service event where they created 100 full-size and 43 mini “Blessing Bags” for those experiencing homelessness. The Blessing Bags were filled with donations by parishioners, teens and T4C volunteers and supplied each recipient with hygiene basics, food, water, and a caring note sharing God’s love. The bags are being distributed by individuals and ministries across the Charlotte area to help support the almost 3,000 people who currently find themselves homeless in our community.
