HUNTERSVILLE — Student-athletes at St. Mark School recently led a school-wide service project to show home health patients that they are remembered and loved by the school community.
They collected items for patients to enjoy and packed them into gift bags. The “We Care Kits” project involved 30 student-athletes who packed approximately 200 gift bags to distribute to local home health patients.
Each grade at the school was assigned an item – such as socks, toiletries or snacks – to collect and include in each gift bag. On Oct 14, the group of fall student-athletes stayed after school to prepare and deliver the bags to local home health nurses, occupational therapists, and social workers who then distributed them to their patients.
In addition to 200 complete kits that were distributed, another 50 partial kits were given to a local shelter to distribute to people in need.
“This act of kindness and service from our student-athletes exemplifies what it means to be Christ to others,” said Principal Julie Thornley. “I am extremely proud of how compassionate and caring these fine students are and I am inspired by their desire to put their faith into action.”
