SYLVA — On a sunny day in March, members of St. Mary Mother of God Parish hosted a Manna FoodBank truck event for their local community. This outreach event was held as part of the diocese’s 50th anniversary’s “50 Acts of Charity” campaign.
Fr. Paul Asoh explained, “As gas and food prices continued to climb, we learned that many individuals and families in our community were finding it hard to afford fresh, nutritious food. We wanted to do something that would provide some relief and help take care of our neighbors who have been struggling.”
Volunteers from St. Mary Mother of God’s Outreach Commission, members of Unete NC, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas were on hand to help with the many tasks throughout the day – including setting up, welcoming people to the event, distributing food, and cleaning up at the end.
Many individuals and families in need were able to bring home plentiful fruits and vegetables – thanks to the hardworking volunteers and the great people at MANNA FoodBank.
